McMaster University Campus Core Study

HAMILTON, ONTARIO

In identifying and assessing potential building sites in the centre of the McMaster campus, we studied ways to improve the quality of place, looking to increase academic dignity and create quality outdoor spaces at the same time.

The academic lawn or quadrangle has been an intrinsic public space on university campuses for hundreds of years.

A study of classic campuses, their unique quadrangles, and comparative quadrangle sizes and qualities was an important step in this study. Our study proposed the creation of three new quadrangles at McMaster, which would transform the campus core and also would increase its vitality and potency.
